Plain English summary: QuickChat does not collect, store, or transmit any of your personal data. Phone numbers you type stay on your device. Recents are stored locally only. We have no servers, no accounts, and no analytics tied to you.
QuickChat (“we”, “us”, “our”) is built with privacy as a core principle. This Policy explains what information is handled by the App and how. It applies to the QuickChat Android app and the website at moshlabs.org/project/quickchat/.
What We Collect
Information you provide
- Phone numbers: Numbers you enter into the App are used solely to open a chat in WhatsApp, Telegram, or Signal. They are never transmitted to our servers (we have none).
- Recent history: If you use the app more than once with the same number, QuickChat stores that number in a local Recents list on your device. This data never leaves your device.
- Labels: Optional names you add to recent entries are stored locally on your device only.
Information collected automatically
QuickChat does not collect analytics, crash reports, usage statistics, or any telemetry. The app has no network calls of its own.
What we do not collect
- Your phone number or identity
- Contacts from your address book
- Location data
- Device identifiers
- Any data from your camera or photos beyond what you explicitly scan
OCR / Camera Use
If you use the Scan feature to read a phone number from an image:
- The image is processed entirely on your device using on-device ML Kit text recognition.
- No image or extracted text is sent to any server.
- The camera session ends as soon as you close the scanner.
How We Use Your Information
We use nothing. There is no server to send data to, no account system to store it in, and no analytics pipeline to process it. All functionality runs locally on your device.
Data Storage
All data generated by QuickChat (recents, labels, preferences) is stored on your device using local storage. It is not synced to the cloud, not backed up to our servers, and not accessible to anyone other than you.
Data Sharing
We do not share, sell, rent, or otherwise disclose your data to any third party, because we do not have any of your data.
Third-Party Services
QuickChat opens WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal via deep links. When you tap one of these buttons, you are transferred to that third-party app. Their respective privacy policies govern what happens from that point forward:
- WhatsApp: https://www.whatsapp.com/legal/privacy-policy
- Telegram: https://telegram.org/privacy
- Signal: https://signal.org/legal/
Data Retention
| Data type | Where stored | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| Recent history | Your device only | Until you clear it or uninstall the App |
| Labels | Your device only | Until you delete them or uninstall the App |
| App preferences | Your device only | Until you clear app data or uninstall the App |
Your Rights
Because all data is stored locally on your device, you are in full control:
- Access: Open the App and view your Recents at any time.
- Deletion: Delete individual entries from Recents, or clear all data by uninstalling the App or clearing app storage in Android Settings.
- Portability: There is no cloud export, because there is no cloud data.
Children’s Privacy
QuickChat is not directed at children under the age of 13. The App has no registration, account, or profile features, and does not knowingly collect any information from children.
Changes to This Policy
If we update this Privacy Policy, we will update the “last updated” date at the top of this page. Because we collect no contact information, we cannot notify users by email: please check this page periodically.
